We were looking for a 996 to take on PCA drives and looked for about 9 months to find a low mileage, preferably single owner 996. My first preference was a C4S, but that was not to be. We ended up with a 2003 targa, with full leather, about 40,000 km (about 25,000 miles) and single owner. We have had the car since 2018. It now has a double din, wireless Apple Carplay (Alpine). All else is stock.

    Dogs don’t have snooze buttons…

    996 Turbo Sunrise

Bentley, my runt-rescue, normally wakes me up around 6:00 AM. Today it was 5:00 AM. Ugh…

I tried to act like I was still asleep, but his whining told me he needed to go out. I stumbled out of bed and headed to the back door. Yup, he had to go. Now I’m up and wide awake. Standing at my rear window, I watched the dark night’s hues fade to baby blues. The sun was coming up. If I left soon, I could go for a short twisty back roads drive before meeting the guys for Porsche breakfast. I whistled for Bentley, as if mentally telling him to hurry up.

Moments later, my 996 Turbo barked to life, disturbing my slumbering neighbors, I’m sure. Rolling out my neighborhood to the road less traveled, I stopped. In front of me was the reason everyone should get up early, the sunrise. I parked my car and snapped THIS picture. I was alone on the road. No birds. No wind. No other cars. Just me.

I slowly walked back to my car, enjoying my private moment. Once in I closed the door, smiled, rolled my windows down, selected a 1st gear – and punched it.

Thank you Bentley, for getting me up early.

    – Stan

That is a GREAT photograph!  I see you appear to have upgraded the headlight and perhaps changed the exhaust.  Have you owned your turbo for long?  Have you made lots of other modifications?

This is my first Porsche.  I’ve had this 1999 Carrera 996 Cabriolet almost 10 years and love it.  I bought it through a Porsche dealership in “as is” condition and discovered after I bought the car that the 1999 came with a removeable hardtop; which the dealership did not include in the package.  I was able to contact the previous owner to discuss maintenance history; if he had changed the IMS bearing, etc.  We had a nice discussion; he told me that he had loved driving the car when he owned it and that he had only regular maintenance done to the car.  During the conversation, he tells me that he has the hardtop in storage and would I like to have it?  I agreed; we met at his storage facility; put the hard top on the car together; took a photo together next to the car and parted ways.  I have many years of “Smilage” on the winding roads of the Hudson Valley, New York; and look forward to continuing enjoying the ride in this “Classic” car !!!1999 Carrera Cabriolet

I am new to the Forum. Here is my new (to me) 02 C4S. A lovely ride for which I wrote and article for my local PCA Chapter – Potomac here in DC Region. The article is about me picking it up and driving it back home. I will share the story via a couple of shots since it is only a print publication.  I am also a car photographer (side gig) and love to shoot high-end cars. Here is shot of my C4S at night. I think it has one of the nicest rear ends out the in the wild. Enjoy.

I just purchased my first Porsche a couple weeks ago. 2002 996 Turbo. My very first “enthusiast” car I ever bought was a 2012 Boss 302 Mustang about 4 years ago. I adored that car but made the hard decision to sell it in order to go after something European. I considered the Lotus Esprit V8 for a good while, but ended up ultimately purchasing what was quite literally my childhood dream car. I’m very happy to finally be a Porsche owner and it’s still hard to believe I have a Turbo in my garage. I’m looking forward to many, many years of enjoyment! I’m in Charlotte, NC.

    Hi,

I bought my ’99 996 C4 Coupe just over 2 years ago. Wonderful car, however it needed some sorting out. Previous owners had installed lowering Eibach springs on the stock shocks which is not a good idea. Probably the same previous owner had also installed a supercharger which adds another 12ohp and in all honesty I cannot understand why.

The supercharger is in the process of being removed and replaced with an IPD plenum. That should bring the power down to 330hp which is plenty enough for what I want to do with the car. While the car is in the shop, I’m also replacing the motor mounts with semi-rigid ones and the complete air-0il separator kit from FCP Euro. Once this is completed I will add wheels spacers and a deep sump pump.

Hello all.  I have been trying to get on this Registry for some time now. Happy to finally get a login. I have a MY 2000 996.1 Carrera 4. I have owned this Porsche for 12 years now and love it. She recently crossed over the 100,000 mile mark and is going strong. This is my 5th Porsche and the best of the lot … for me anyway. She is an Artic Silver over Black full leather Coupe with Sunroof & Tiptronic. This 911 has a fair number of options, as well as a few add on modifications. They include a PSS-9 Coil over suspension, and a TechArt Sport Headers and Exhaust system. As this 996 was built in January 2000 it has the Silver Hood and Steering wheel Badges. The rest of the options and mods are dress up items. The Wheels are my favorite standard Porsche Cup Two design taken from the 1993 – 968 & 928. Front wheels are 17 x 7.5 wide, and rears are 17 x 9’s, Re-painted Body color with polished rims, With Conti Sport tires. As I drive it all year round, a second set of similar sized aftermarket Turbo Twist like rims wear Snow shoes. I have been a PNWR (Seattle) club member for many years. And I started with PCA in the 1970’s with a 914. Gretta my Greman Shepard Porsche Dog inside the 996

This is my 1999 Carrera coupe in Guards Red/Savanna Beige with Aerokit.

I took delivery of the car at the end of April 2021. Not exactly the ideal market conditions to have been buying it, but it was the first time I’d been able to afford the car that I have been wanting for the last 20 years.

Naturally, the first thing I did was join the PCA. It’s been great.

Mechanically, the car is very vanilla. A past owner upgraded the intake, exhaust, and suspension (plus the IMS bearing, of course), but nothing crazy. Ideally, I would like to swap out the Sport Classic wheels for Sport Design ones and really complete the 996.1 GT3 look. But in the nearer term, now that I’ve got an Android Auto stereo installed, I’m more interested in taking care of the rather extreme amount of stone chipping on the front bumper.

I was wondering what upgrades you have done? I have 05 turbo with a few modifications and was looking to add a few more horses under hood. I would like to get closer to that 600 mark. Look forward to see what you’ve done. Thanks Mike
